Namepin can help.
Could you help me get Namepin off the ground?
It's free and takes about two minutes on your Android phone.
Skip to the 3 stepsHow did you get here? Most likely you know me, Jason, or my wife Jill, and one of us has been badgering you. If instead you were searching for Area 51, a cure for hiccups or the meaning of life, you've taken a very wrong turn. But you're here now, so you may as well stay and help.
Hi, I'm Jason. I'm brilliant at faces and hopeless at names, and I know I'm not the only one. We all meet so many people through life and work, and for years I've kept the important little facts about them scattered across notes, snippets and scraps of paper: a name, their kids, where we met, what we talked about. When I needed it, I could never find it.
I tried lots of apps, and none of them quite did it. So this year I built my own. Namepin is a simple app for remembering the people you meet: their name, one thing about them, and where you met. I wanted it to fill every gap I kept hitting, and to be easy enough for anyone to use, whatever their age.
Before Google will put it in the Play Store, I need at least 12 people to test it on their Android phones for 2 weeks, and to tell me what's wrong with it, so it's genuinely good by the time strangers try it. I'd be really grateful for your help.
Thank you, Jason
Three steps, on your Android phone
You'll need a Google account, the one your phone uses for the Play Store. If you download apps from Google Play, you already have one. If a page asks you to sign in, use that same account.
-
Join the tester group
Tap the button, then tap Join group.
Join the groupIf it says you don't have permission, you just need to sign in: tap Sign in at the top, then Join group. If it asks you to confirm, tap Join group again.
-
Say yes to testing
Tap the button, then tap Become a tester.
Become a testerIf it says the app isn't available, check step 1 worked, wait a few minutes and try again.
-
Install the app
On the page from step 2, tap download it on Google Play (or the button below), then tap Install. It's free, and appears on your phone as Namepin.
Get Namepin on Google PlayIf Google Play says it can't find the app, wait half an hour and try again. It can take a little while to appear.
When you open it, swipe through a few welcome screens and you're in. There's no account and no sign-up.
The first time you pin someone, it asks to use your location: once, at save, never in the background. It only asks for the microphone, camera or notifications when you use them. If you set a reminder, it may ask you to allow Alarms & reminders, so the reminder arrives on time.
- Use it for real. Pin a few people you meet over the 2 weeks: a neighbour, someone at the gym, a parent at the school gate. Try searching for them later.
- Tell me what's broken. Anything that crashes, freezes, looks wrong or doesn't do what you expected.
- Tell me what would make it better. What confused you, what annoyed you, what you wish it did. Honest is more useful than kind.
- Keep it installed for 2 weeks. Please don't leave the test early: if we drop below 12, Google restarts the count.
Found a bug or have an idea?
Every message comes straight to me. Tap one of these and your email opens with a few prompts to fill in:
Or from inside the app: tap Settings (the gear at the bottom), then Help & Feedback. Or just email hello@namepin.app.
Stuck?
- It won't let me join or install
- Use the same Google account as your Play Store. To check, open Play Store and tap your picture in the top corner.
- Play says it isn't available in my country, or my phone isn't compatible
- The test is open in most countries and needs Android 7 or newer. If it still says it isn't available, wait a little and try again, or email me at hello@namepin.app and I'll see what I can do.
- I don't think I have a Google account
- If you can download apps from the Play Store, you do: open Play Store and tap your picture in the top corner to see it. If you really don't, you can make one free at accounts.google.com.
- I opened this on a computer
- Steps 1 and 2 work on a computer too, if you're signed in with the Google account your phone uses. Then do step 3 on your phone.
- I have an iPhone
- This page is for Android. Email me at hello@namepin.app and I'll send you the iPhone version.
- How do updates arrive?
- Through Google Play, like any other app. There's nothing extra to do.
- What happens after the 2 weeks?
- Keep using it if you like. Your pins live only on your phone, so if you ever uninstall it, they go with it.
- How do I get my free Premium?
- When Premium launches I'll email every tester a code, at the address of the Google account you joined with.
Only you can see your pins
Your people stay on your phone. No account, no sign-up.
