Privacy Policy

Namepin for iOS & Android · beta · last updated 15 July 2026

The short version: everything you put into Namepin stays on your phone. We run no servers, require no account, and collect nothing - we couldn't read your data if we wanted to. Only you can see it.

Who we are

Namepin is made by Jason Bent, United Kingdom. Contact: hello@namepin.app. The personal information you record about people in Namepin is stored and processed only on your device, under your control - we do not receive, store, or process it.

What the app stores - on your device only

All of this lives in a local database inside the app's private storage, included in your normal device backups according to your own settings.

What we do NOT do

Network use

Namepin works offline. The only network activity is performed by your device's operating system on the app's behalf: map tiles and address lookup are provided by Apple Maps (iOS) or Google Maps (Android) under their own privacy policies, plus app-store delivery. Notifications are local - no push server.

Permissions, in plain words

PermissionWhen it's used
Location (while using)Once, at save - and once when you open Nearby / Nearest. Never in the background.
MicrophoneOnly while you record a voice note.
Speech recognitionTranscribes voice notes on the device itself. Nothing is sent anywhere.
Camera / Photo libraryOnly when you attach a photo.
NotificationsOnly to deliver reminders you set.

Every permission is optional; the app works without them (minus that feature).

Your data, your controls

Your responsibilities

You record information about other people. Use Namepin as a personal memory aid - the digital equivalent of a private notebook - and comply with the laws that apply to you.

Children

Namepin is not directed at children under 13, and we knowingly collect no data from anyone - see above.

Changes

If a future version adds optional online features (for example paid sync/backup), this policy will be updated before those features ship, and they will be opt-in. Local-only use will never require an account.

Your rights (UK/EU GDPR)

The website waitlist

If you leave your email address on namepin.app, it is stored by Netlify (our website host) and used for one thing: one or two emails about Namepin's launch, sent by us personally. It is never shared, sold, or added to any other list. To be removed, reply "unsubscribe" to any email from us, or write to hello@namepin.app, and we will delete your address promptly.

Because we hold no personal data about you, access, rectification, erasure and portability are all fulfilled by the app's own controls (export and deletion above). If you believe we hold any personal data about you - for example from an email you sent us - contact hello@namepin.app; you may also complain to the ICO (ico.org.uk).
