The short version: everything you put into Namepin stays on your phone. We run no servers, require no account, and collect nothing. We could not read your data if we wanted to. Only you can see it.
Namepin is made by Jason Bent, United Kingdom. Contact: hello@namepin.app, or by post: Jason Bent, Unit 173596, PO Box 7169, Poole, BH15 9EL. The personal information you record about people in Namepin is stored and processed only on your device, under your control - we do not receive, store, or process it.
All of this lives in a local database inside the app's private storage, included in your normal device backups according to your own settings.
Namepin works offline. Map tiles and address lookup come from Apple Maps (iOS) or Google Maps (Android) under their own privacy policies. On Android, the Google Maps SDK inside the app also sends Google basic device and diagnostic data (device model, OS version, crash reports, map interactions and a pseudonymous SDK identifier) to run and improve its maps. Namepin never sends your people, notes, photos, voice notes or locations anywhere. The only other network activity is app-store delivery and, if you buy Premium, the purchase check described below. Notifications are local: no push server.
| Permission | When it's used |
|---|---|
| Location (while using) | Once, at save, and once when you open Nearby or Nearest. Never in the background. |
| Microphone | Only while you record a voice note. |
| Speech recognition | Transcribes voice notes on the device itself. Nothing is sent anywhere. |
| Camera / Photo library | Only when you attach a photo. |
| Notifications | Only to deliver reminders you set. |
| Contacts | No permission asked. If a note or voice note mentions a phone number or email, the profile shows it with call, text, email and copy shortcuts. Save to Contacts opens your phone's own contact form, filled in. Nothing is saved unless you save it there, and Namepin never reads your contacts. |
Every permission is optional; the app works without them (minus that feature).
You record information about other people. Use Namepin as a personal memory aid, the digital equivalent of a private notebook, and comply with the laws that apply to you.
Namepin is not directed at children under 13, and we knowingly collect no data from anyone - see above.
Applies from the release that introduces the paid tier. When you upgrade, the purchase is processed by Apple or Google under their terms; we never see your payment details. To unlock Premium the app uses RevenueCat, which receives an anonymous app-generated identifier and your purchase status so the upgrade can be restored on a new phone. RevenueCat never sees your people, notes, photos, voice notes or location. No purchase is needed for local-only use.
If a future version adds optional online features (for example paid sync/backup), this policy will be updated before those features ship, and they will be opt-in. Local-only use will never require an account.
namepin.app is a static site hosted by Netlify, which keeps standard server logs (including visitor IP addresses) under its own privacy policy. The site sets no cookies, runs no analytics, and serves its fonts itself.
If you leave your email address on namepin.app, it is stored by Netlify (our website host) and used for one thing: one or two emails about Namepin's launch, sent by us personally. It is never shared, sold, or added to any other list. To be removed, reply "unsubscribe" to any email from us, or write to hello@namepin.app, and we will delete your address promptly.
Apart from a waitlist email address or anything you send us directly, we hold no personal data about you, so access, rectification, erasure and portability for your Namepin data are fulfilled by the app's own controls (export and deletion above). For your email address, write to hello@namepin.app and we will delete it. You may also complain to the ICO (ico.org.uk).
