Common questions

Where is my data stored?
Only on your phone. There's no account, no sign-up and no cloud, so I can't see your pins, and nobody else can either. Only you can see them.
How do I back up, or move to a new phone?

Go to Settings → Data & Export. Export everything · JSON saves your people, notes, tags, groups, places, reminders and voice-note transcripts in one file; Export people · CSV gives you a spreadsheet. Save the file somewhere safe, such as your email or files app.

On the new phone, use Import from a file on the same screen. It brings back your people with their notes, tags, groups and places. Anyone you already have is skipped, never merged.

Photos and voice recordings aren't in the export file. They're kept by your phone's own backup (iCloud on iPhone, Google backup on Android), depending on your backup settings.

How do I delete everything?
Settings → Data & Export → Delete everything. It asks you twice, then permanently erases every person, note, photo, voice note, group and reminder from your phone. It can't be undone, so export first if you want a copy. You can also delete any single person, note, photo or voice note where you see it.
What does Namepin do with my location?

Only when you act. It reads your location a single time when you pin someone, so you can find people later by where you met. It also takes one reading when you open Nearby, sort by Nearest, open a person's map, or tap Use where I am now. Never in the background, never continuous.

To skip it for one person, tap the location line on the capture screen before you save. To change the default, go to Settings → Defaults. You can remove or change a saved place any time from the person's profile.

My reminders arrive late on Android
Android can delay reminders by up to an hour unless Namepin is allowed to set exact alarms. Go to Settings → Defaults → Exact reminder times and allow it (on some phones this is called Alarms & reminders). Also check notifications are on for Namepin in your phone's settings.
How do voice notes and transcripts work?

Record a voice note when you pin someone or from their profile. Namepin can turn what you say into text so you can search it later. Transcription happens only on your phone: your voice is never sent anywhere. If your phone can't transcribe on the device, Namepin saves the recording without a transcript.

iPhone: turn on Dictation (Settings → General → Keyboard) and keep an English keyboard installed. Android: needs Android 13 or newer with Google's offline English speech pack. You can turn transcription off in Settings → Defaults.

What's free, and what's Premium?
Namepin is free for your first 10 people, with every feature included, and groups are unlimited. Reaching the limit never takes anything away: everything you've pinned stays fully usable, searchable and exportable. Premium lets you keep adding people, as a monthly or yearly subscription or a one-time lifetime purchase. Buy, restore or redeem a code in Settings → Premium; manage or cancel a subscription in your App Store or Google Play account settings.
